POSITION REQUIREMENTS OVERVIEW

Job Title: Regional EHS Intern

Reports To: Manager, Regional EHS

Non-Exempt or Exempt Status: non-Exempt

Department: Human Resources

Overview of Position:

Requires education of at least (2) academic years or (4) semesters from a accredited secondary educational institution studying Occupational Environmental, Health, and Safety, or similar.

  1. Description of Duties/Responsibilities/Requirements:
  • Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting safety and environmental functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
  • Responsible for understanding and responding to inquiries regarding policies, procedures and programs.
  • Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Ensure required postings are posted and kept up to date; complete frequent site visits and update OSHA logs as required.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and enforcing safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal agencies such as OSHA, EPA, NFPA rules, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Maintain facilities Safety Data Sheets.
  • Maintain working knowledge of new developments in government regulations.
  • Inspects organization facilities to identify existing or potential accident and health hazards, recommends changes in policies and procedures to prevent accidents and illness, and follows up to ensure measures are being followed.
  • Conducts investigation of accidents and injuries. Implements administrative or engineering controls to mitigate or eliminate safety hazards.
  • Assist in workers compensation program as directed.
  • Coordinate and train employees on safety and health requirements to ensure compliance with regulations. This will include Monthly Trainings and follow up training, Corrective training, and safety huddles. Ensuring the workforce understands and comprehends the training topics.
  • Conduct hazard assessments and develop controls to mitigate hazards
  • Assist in ergonomic program to develop more ergonomic work stations and process
  • Enforces use of safety equipment.
  • Maintain safety files and records.
  • Have valid drivers license and reliable transportation to routinely travel to local sites within the southeastern Wisconsin area.
  • Other duties will be assigned as needed.

  1. Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Requires education of at least (2) academic years or (4) semesters from a accredited secondary educational institution studying Occupational Environmental, Health, and Safety, or similar. Preferred: Capstone Internship seekers or recent graduates from the before mentioned program.
  • Previous full time professional experience is not required but is encouraged.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Should have working knowledge of internet software, spreadsheet software, word processing software and presentation software.
  • Requires good oral and written communication skills; polished group and interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Requires the ability to function as a team member and contribute to group goals; Coaching, mentoring and team-building skills.
  • Requires the ability to use a variety of office equipment such as spreadsheet and word processing software, calculator, telephone, facsimile machine, photocopier, and a computer printer.

  • Strong spreadsheet and analysis skills; intermediate report-creation skills
  • Extremely detail-oriented; able to audit and maintain extremely accurate data
  • Ability to analyze complex problems
  • Decisive critical thinker able to make decisions based on sound business ethics
  • Able to handle a variety of tasks in a fast paced team environment
  • Must be able to read and produce human resources-related spreadsheets and other documents using computer equipment
  • Able to effectively train others

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee must wear safety toed footwear and safety glasses while working in manufacturing areas.

The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
