Accounting Internship – Alpha Energy Solutions, Odessa TX – Onsite

Position Summary

Our client, Alpha Energy Solutions is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Intern to assist the Accounting Department with payroll tax reconciliation and payroll-related accounting functions. This internship offers hands-on experience working with payroll data, tax reporting, and financial reconciliations using Paycom.

Please note that this role is on-site in Odessa, TX and is roughly 10 hours per week. It is also a job that can continue into the fall and be a long-term opportunity. Great work experience!

The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, and comfortable working with numbers while maintaining a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reconcile payroll tax liabilities and payroll tax reports within Paycom.
  • Review payroll reports for accuracy and identify discrepancies.
  • Compare payroll tax filings to general ledger balances and supporting documentation.
  • Research and assist in resolving payroll tax variances.
  • Assist with payroll audits and payroll tax compliance projects.
  • Maintain accurate records and supporting documentation for payroll transactions.
  • Prepare spreadsheets and reconciliation reports using Microsoft Excel.
  • Collaborate with the Accounting and Payroll teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Assist with month-end accounting activities as assigned.
  • Perform other accounting and administrative duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including formulas and data organization.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling payroll information.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework in Accounting or Payroll Accounting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, PivotTables, or similar functions.
  • Familiarity with payroll systems such as Paycom is a plus but not required.
