Nursing Assistant Job Description

Food, housing, and laundry service provided during employment

Direct Supervisor: Head Nurse

The Nursing Assistant is a member of the Healthcare Center staff who is responsible for assisting with the maintenance of the overall health of campers and staff:

· Maintain health history files for each staff member and camper

· Assist the nurses/physician with specific health issues with parents and staff as requested

· Participate in and assist with staff training relating to health and safety

· Review inventory and supplies: estimate needs for adequate inventory for camp season

· Responsible for assisting in physically organizing and preparing health center for camp season

· Responsible for assisting with processing and checking in individual medication (prescription & non-prescription)

· Responsible for filing camper medication list for each division

· Input all medical treatment provided to campers on a daily basis into computer database

· Assist with overall housekeeping of health center, including stocking of linens, food supplies, and office supplies

· File all charts that have been pulled during the day

· Maintain temperature chart for refrigerator and freezer

Camp Season:

· Administer first aid

· Perform triage of campers/staff during sick call

· Take vital signs

· Maintain accurate records

· Assist physician and nurse to communicate with parents/guardians and staff as necessary

· Communicate any physical or emotional camper concerns to medical staff and staff/parents/admin.

· Assist with all treatments as requested by physician or nurse

· Help to prepare first-aid kits and issue to appropriate areas

· Help to prepare meds and first aid kits for groups going on trips

Post-camp:

· Inventory check of supplies/equipment

· Assessment and list of required inventory for next camp season

· Help to evaluate and make recommendations on policies, procedures and camp forms for next camp season

· Assist to pack up supplies at end of season

General Administrative team responsibilities:

· Help to ensure the safety and security of campers, staff and facility at all times (risk assessment)

· Be an appropriate role model for other staff and campers. Lead by example.

· Inform physician and/or nurse of any camper and staff problems

· Pitch in where needed

· Attend appropriate meetings as requested
