National Mental Health Corps (NMHC) Volunteer

As an AmeriCorps Volunteer, you’ll gain hands-on experience in mental health programming, community outreach, event coordination, and partnership development while helping your host site strengthen local mental health services. Whether you’re interested in nonprofit work, public health, social work, psychology, counseling, education, or community engagement, this opportunity provides valuable professional experience while making a lasting impact.
What You’ll Do
As an NMHC Volunteer, you will:
- Support the implementation of evidence-based mental health programs such as Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer), or other host site initiatives.
- Plan and assist with community events, workshops, and outreach activities that promote mental wellness and reduce stigma.
- Build relationships with community organizations and help connect individuals to local mental health resources.
- Create outreach and marketing materials, including social media content, newsletters, and promotional campaigns.
- Collect program data and assist with reporting and evaluation to measure community impact.
- Participate in professional development, AmeriCorps trainings, and nationally recognized mental health certifications.

- Has experience or interest in psychology, counseling, social work, public health, education, nonprofit work, communications, or related fields.
- Meets the educational requirements established by the host site.
- Is eligible to serve as an AmeriCorps member.
AmeriCorps Benefits
Full-Time (1,700 hours)
- 10-month service term
- $21,000 living stipend (paid biweekly)
- $7,395 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful completion

Part-Time (900 hours)
- Approximately 10-month service term
- $10,500 living stipend (paid biweekly)
- $3,697 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful completion
- Holidays and personal days
- Professional training and nationally recognized certifications
